Travel & Sketch

I picked up an acrylic painting set on a whim while I was in Auckland a year ago, and I hoped to do some plein air sketching in the beautiful country. I enjoyed it but struggled a lot. The bulk of the set  and the quality of the materials turned out to be a problem. I also carried the set with me when I visited Budapest and Prague later in the year, but hardly used it. I soon realized the importance of portability and so put together a compact travel kit.

I carried Holbein Gouache paints in 5ml tubes, an additional tube of white paint, Jack Richeson plein air brushes, a tin pencil case as the palette and a spritzer to wet the left over paints. And all of it fit neatly into a small pouch that was easy to carry. I used a Strathmore Watercolor Postcard Paper Pad (4x6) and clipped the palette to the top using a binder clip. It was easy to hold in one hand while I painted with the other. The good quality paints and brushes made the whole process a breeze. It worked out very well! Posting a few sketch from Australia this time!
